The question of whether the Internet is good or bad for the environment is beginning to cause a lot of concern for many. To celebrate Earth Day 2011 the WordSteam Blog has released an infographic that addressing exactly how large of a footprint the Internet is leaving behind on Planet Earth.

Based on the infographic below, we can see that the Internet is definitely leaving behind a carbon footprint but, in the last 6 years, the overall efficieny of the internet in terms of energy use has improved tremendously and we can only assume that it will continue in that direction.
