Update 10/25/2012:
One of my readers recently reported that a Google Chrome plugin was causing her Facebook to be slow.
The plugin is called SocialReviver 3.15 and it reverts the Facebook interface and chat back to an older version of Facebook. After disabling the plugin, Facebook began loading at a normal speed. It may be a good idea to restart your browser after disabling the plugin – just to be safe.
This is the second time that I’ve reported on a Google Chrome plugin causing problems in Facebook. I have an article regarding the “ads not by Facebook problem” cause by a Google Chrome plugin that ads additional advertisements to Facebook profiles.
Please let me know how the above solution works out in the comments section below!
Update 09/26/2012:
Facebook is again loading very slow and has been for the past week. I have had a huge influx of users commenting and reading this post because Facebook either does not load at all or takes a very long time.
I have heard users report that the Facebook slowness is happening regardless of what browser they use and / or what type of network connection they’re using.
Generally, when Facebook or another web-based service incurs problems such as this, it is because of an update or modification to the service.
There are two possible reasons that I can come up with as to why Facebook has been running slow this week.
Irish regulators have recently forced Facebook to tighten up their privacy, specifically with their facial recognition feature to avoid legal penalties by Irish regulators.
Also, there have been concerns that private messages from some Facebook users have been appearing publicly on their Facebook walls. It turns out that the reports were false but that did not stop Facebook engineers from investigating the reports and has also caused a lot of concern from international agencies regarding privacy.
Based on these two events, Facebook engineers are surely updating some privacy features which, in turn, may be causing some of the slow loading problems reported by users.
Also, there may be an increased number of automated scans being performed on Facebook’s servers by national and international government agencies which could – depending on the quantity of scans – cause a spike in traffic enough for Facebook users to notice slowness.
If you have any additional information regarding why Facebook may be loading slow or details regarding your specific experience, please let me know in the comments section below.
Update 08/30/2012:
Facebook appears to be having loading problems again tonight. I first noticed the issue around 9:00pm EST and it is occurring when trying to load any page or widget associated with the facebook.com domain.
If you are also experiencing problems, please post a comment with as much information you can provide, specifically when you began having issues, so we can determine how widespread the issue is and search for solutions.
Update 05/31/2012: Facebook is having loading issues again tonight according to many users.
Ironically, Facebook filed for their IPO only two weeks ago. Since then, their stock price has been plummeting – Do they realize it doesn’t help when their website doesn’t load properly either?
I will update this post with any further details. If you have any information about the problem that you think will help other users, please post it in the comments section below.
Update 02/07/2012: Facebook has been rolling out a new photo viewer over the last week that may be contributing to the “slowness” of Facebook lately.
Regardless, the issue seems to be less widespread for the time being – any further developments will be added to this article.
Please inform me through the comments section below if you think the Facebook slowness issue has resurfaced.
Facebook Loading Problem:
As many of you have probably noticed, there seems to be a problem with slowness on Facebook today.
The problem is evident when both using Facebook itself or accessing a site that interfaces with Facebook’s API – any site on the web with a Facebook like button.
I have noticed on multiple pages not affiliated with Facebook, that they will not finish loading and instead, continue to display a “waiting for www.facebook.com” message in the page load status indicator at the bottom of my browser.
This problem has also been verified by some of my colleagues.
It is one thing for Facebook to be slow or have issues when a user is actually using the Facebook.com domain. It is another thing when almost every page on the internet is having trouble loading completely because it is hooked up to the Facebook API.
I will be keeping an eye on this issue throughout the day and updating this post when more information is available.
If you have any details on the issue, please leave them in the comments section below.
It would be great to hear how widespread and severe the Facebook loading issue is.

I kept getting messages that said a connection to the server could not be established so I tried this……..
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f131/firefox-cant-establish-a-connection-to-the-server-390599.html
and it worked.
I am finally connecting to FB and I can log in however it is very slow.
Sloooooooow in CO. So slow that I'm now going to Pinterest for online fun.
has been very very slow in loading all pages, login, notifications, messages etc but only when using a computer, using a mobile phone it seems fine. It's geeting really frustrating as soo much is depended on FB nowadays!! Not impressed, they have the money and the man power to sort it out, so why don't they, or is Zuckerberg still on honeymoon and no one knows how to restart their servers??
Update: The FB Like button "waiting for" problem has been happening for months.
For comparison, my site uses the iframe version of their Like button. But I notice this on lots of sites, I suspect it is not limited to the iframe version.
If anyone has a workaround please share. In the meantime it's tempting to replace the Like button with "This is where the FB button will go, if FB ever gets it to work."
I was beginning to think it was just me this was happening to… no one else around here is having problems. I am having the same issues as everyone else..it started last week. Seems like it gets hung up around the news feed. Just horrible!
Tacoma, Washington here..
Please someone figure out the problem and fix it!! lol
So glad to hear this is not just me it's happening to. The place has been driving me up a wall for the past couple of weeks. I really want to update my profile, but I can't get to it. I'm thinking about quitting Facebook and finding something else.
Here in Australia I have been an internet user for years ,2005 aprox.., and until facebook came along it was a fairly good experience now nearly every site I visit I get "WAITING FOR FACEBOOK" cpu goes through the roof recking my HP lap top PLEASE PLEASE PISS FACEBOOK OF THE NET .
FB is abysmally slow; been going on for a few weeks now. I run Chrome (on Mac), and no other speed issues whatsoever on any other website. I don't search or run anything through FB and log out when not using it because a)I hate them 'tracking' my activity and 'posting for me', and b) I manage some clients' FB pages items for them so I'm in and out of other accounts often. All of them truly suck lately and it's making my social use of it non-existent, and business page use entirely frustrating. I would have dumped them ages ago if it wasn't practically a necessary evil as an independent contractor/business owner these days. Ugh.

Really slow for the last week. FB is the only website having issues. I've run the crap cleaner and the anti-virus cleaner. Same symptoms as everyone else. FB is unusable like this.
FB is sooo slow
My facebook account won't load properly no matter matter what browser I use in my laptop and when I tried to view it through my username after I logged out, it said that the content was currently unavailable. It doesn't make any sense because my sister was able to succesfully access her account while using my laptop. I also tried scanning for malwares and clearing my history and cookies but none worked. What irked me the most was that I was able to access my account succesfully using my iphone through the facebook app.
Facebook is loading sloooooower than Grandma's molasses this evening…actually now early morning and I am plain
tuckered trying to connect with Friends….so going to go get some much needed shuteye. Best Wishes to Facebook and
it's speedy recovery!
Tons of problems tonight with FB. At first I kept getting an error notice when I attempted to comment, Like, and update my status. this was finally corrected. However, loading is continuing to be a problem. The circle keeps spinning non stop.
i use firefox, and for the past 2 weeks facebook takes an age to load, and we (my partner and i) have had problems seeing photos that other users are posting, some come up but others don't…..any ideas
Facebook has been very slow in chrome the past couple of weeks. Scrolling is nearly impossible. I do not have the plugin mentioned above running. In fact, I disabled all chrome plugins and it made no difference. It runs fine in Firefox, so it's obviously a chrome issue. But, I have no idea what the problem is or how to fix it.
Painfully slow to load – at first I thought it might have been Chrome – but it happens on all – safari, firefox ETC
IT ONLY happens on my desktop
THE lap top is fine – -
Can i fix this – so painfull
every 'new feature' fbook adds seems to slow it down more… many people who work in programming say this is due to poor code design.
why oh why doesn't facebook offer a 'lite' version – not everyone in the world has a brand new, max memory, max processor, etc…. computer!
my facebook is loading forever. –, i just recently opened my facebook a while ago t'was okay then
but now i'm trying to log in my facebook acct
then the "loading www.facebook.com" takes forever
idk what to do –, it's not on my internet connection
this sucks ~
Facebook is SUUUUUUUUUUUUPER SLOOOOOOOW in Google Chrome . I hope they fix it soon. I tried to uninstall then install again but its no use. Still super slow. Facebook is taking forever loading with chrome.
Firefox is doing fine with facebook but I just love Chrome more
Hi Just to say for last week or so facebook is been very slow to load and even when loaded and you click to do something on facebook it takes forever to load it or not at all. I have uninstalled google chrome but so far iv seen no difference. any ideas anyone. thanks.
Facebook games have been loading very slow night & Day.I hope They get their act together or I'm just going to give up on Facebook altogether!!!!!! Hope they fix it soon
Facebook loading slowly for me too. Only been happening for the past few weeks, tried Chrome, Opera and IE. Like others above, it seems to generally only be my computer out of our household that is having problems. I see others have reformatted with no improvement so i'm not going down that route and there are no specific settings for my laptop on the router so that pretty much rules that out. I'm assuming its a server issue also…
my facebook is so slow i have loading issues my games pages freeze up etc
I ditched Chrome and am using Firefox for everything. Facebook problem SOLVED!!!!!!
From yesterday i.e. 27th March 2013 my FB account has slowed down horribly and it is taking ages to open pages or downloading or uploading images which I intend to post or share. This problem is the first time I am encountering in my 5 yrs of association with FB and it is very irritating to me. Since I don't have all the time in this world to wait for certain pages to open or load how do I solve this problem?
