Which programs can I use to Video Chat on my Android device?

Google Talk

Of course we’re going to start with Google. They have it all, and they usually offer it for free. Besides this, Android as a platform is here to interact with Google apps without causing problems with your phone. Google is a great company with a nifty set of services coming out of their workshops.

Ok, so Google Talk is made for Androids and this app is easy to install and use. The only downside is that it can only be used with Android 2.3+ versions only.

Things needed to start video chatting with Talk on Android devices:

  1. A Google account
  2. Yes, like any other Google service, you will need Google account for Talk as well.

  3. A good internet connection
  4. Wi-Fi will offer the best connection. You can also use 3G or 4G (if your network supports 4G).

  5. Someone to talk to
  6. Searching your contacts is easy and once you find the one you’re looking for in your phone book, simply tap the camera icon next to their name to begin chatting.

When you tap the chat icon, the person you’re trying to talk to will get a notification saying that someone wants to video chat with them.

Once that person accepts the call, a new screen will appear (containing two windows; one small where you will be able to see yourself and another containing the video of the person you just called).

Besides video chatting, you will be able to share videos, text messages etc.

If you decide to use some other app, the video will run in the background and you will be able to come back once you finish other tasks and you will be able to continue the chatting.

Skype is No.1 when it comes to video calling and it is reported to have between 50,000,000 and 100,000,000 downloads on the Google Play Store. It is also a great way to make international calls on your smartphone without paying the expensive mobile carrier fees.
