iPhone Delete Photos Photo Library Trashcan

I cannot delete photos from my iPhone in the “Photo Library” section. There is no trashcan symbol!

If you’re experiencing this problem, you’re not alone.

First off, let me guess that the photos you’re trying to delete aren’t actually photos that you took with your iPhone camera, right?

Most likely, the photos that you cannot delete from your iPhone are photos that were uploaded from your computer.

Unfortunately, there is no way to delete these photos by using your phone. You can search for a solution all you want but it will be in vein.

There is, however, a way to delete these photos but plugging your iPhone into your computer and accessing iTunes.

The video tutorial below will walk you through all of the necessary steps to delete photos from your iPhone that are in the “Photo Library” albums or any photos on your iPhone that cannot be deleted because there is no trashcan symbol being displayed.

Hi Anson. Your video on deleting photos is great and I applaud you for what you do to help us non-geeks. I have an iPhone 5. The problem that I am having is that I have 32 photos stored in my “Photo Library” (not my “Camera Roll” – I am able to delete the photos on my Camera Roll but not my Photo Library) but when I go to my tunes as you suggested and click on the “My Pictures” button I don’t get an option for Photo Library (only Choose folder and My Pictures). What am I missing? Your help is greatly appreciated.

    1. Anson Alexander says:

It is a bit hard to tell without actually seeing your computer but it sounds like those 32 photos are probably coming from the "My Pictures" folder so I would just unsync that folder or move all of the pictures in it to a different folder on your computer and then resync it with your phone and the photos on your phone should go away. It is pretty much the same thing that I did in the video but you would be doing it with the "My Pictures" folder.

Helpful and still trying to solve the "delete photos issue" on my iPhone V. I'm 63 and not a computer wizard so I'll spend some time working on it but just want to say the video was helpful. I just repeatedly paused and rewinded sections to figure out what you were doing. Regarding those negative comments from some users: they have their own issues in life so don't sweat what they say. You have your act together and thanks again.

    1. Anson Alexander says:

Thanks Stefan! I'm glad you found the video helpful and I hope that you get the photos issue straightened out! Thanks again for the feedback!

Thanks for your video. I can see how you are a great teacher. Unfortunately, I followed your instructions, and they worked, but not for removing photos / albums copied from my PC to my new iPhone 5s. Where I got lost is when you searched for a picture on "Spotlight". That is, I'm on a PC and my iTunes doesn't have "Spotlight". The search within iTunes only looks at my music folder. Please help a little bit more…
