How to Change the Google Notifier Check Email Frequency on Mac

Those of you who use Gmail may have discovered the very useful Google Notifier tool.

Google Notifier is a local application that notifies you when an email is received. Although you have to be connected to the internet to receive notifications, you don’t have to be currently using a browser.

The main complaint of Google Notifier is that by default it checks for new emails every 30 minutes or so. Having such a large gap in time between email checks defeats the purpose of having an email notification program- to be notified the minute you receive an email!

Heres how to fix the problem:

  1. Open Google Notifier and log into your Gmail account.
  2. Click on the envelope icon at the top of the screen.
  3. While holding down the command and option keys at the same time, click preferences.
  4. In the box that pops up type the information next to “AutocheckInterval” and “Value” (yes, it is case sensitive).

  5. Click set.

Your Google Notifier will now check for mail every minute instead of every 30 minutes.

Enjoy!
