How can typing fast earn you money?
If you use a computer for your day to day activities, this is a question that you should definitely be asking yourself.
Even if you’re not planning on taking up a career as a transcriber, typing fast definitely pays off in the long run.
Not to toot my own horn but, I can type much faster than the average person. In fact, I can type faster than I can think of words to actually type so, in a sense, I’m typing at maximum speed.
I guarantee you that, my blogging productivity is much higher than other bloggers who cannot type as fast.
Even if you’re not a blogger though, handling your daily emails, writing letters and filling out online forms and applications, can all be done much faster if you’re a speedy typer.
So where does the money come in?
Well, we’ve all heard the saying “time is money” and if you’re saving hours upon hours of time from typing faster, then you have hours upon hours to make more money!

Think of all the times that you use a keyboard throughout the day and then imagine if your typing speed was doubled.
How much time would you save in a year? Minutes? Hours?
If you’re a regular computer user, the most likely answer is days. Thats right, simply by typing faster, you could gain more days every single year than the slow typer sitting next to you.
If you don’t believe me, an infographic (posted below) was recently published by AccountingDegree.net that breaks down precisely how much time and money you can save simply by typing faster.
The infographic is actually trying to show the advantages of using dictation software instead of actually typing. Although I think this will definitely be the future of words transcribing, I don’t think we’re quite there yet.
That being said, the infographic states that the average person types 33 words per minute and that the dictation software can record 100 words per minute.
For another baseline when you take a look at the infographic, I can type about 75-80 words per minute so, it is definitely possible to type at a speed very close to the speed at which current dictation software records.
By the way, the most fun and fastest way to learn how to type, in my opinion, is to buy a typing game!
How Fast Typing Pays Off in Money Infographic Highlights:
- The average worker spends 4 hours a day writing emails and performing other digital communications.
- The average typing speed is 33 words per minute.
- If dictation software can save you 3 hours per day, then typing faster could save you 2 hours per day. Over the course of 40 years, that is 29,200 hours or 80 days.
- If you use those extra 2 hours a day to increase your sales or work towards a raise and make $3 per hour in those two hours, you will earn an extra $87,600 over the course of 40 years – thats $2,190 per year.
