How can I unlink my YouTube and Google Plus (Google+) account to change my YouTube username?
For quite some time now, Google has required that all YouTube accounts be linked to a Google Plus account – they’re doing this in an attempt to unify their services.
For many people, this is a problem because they don’t want their YouTube name to be their actual real life name. The only way to change your YouTube username is to change your Google Plus name and many people would like their real name on Google+ but a fake or different username on YouTube.
If you follow the instructions in the above video, you will learn how to unlink your YouTube account from Google+ and, in turn, change your YouTube username to whatever you would like it to be.
You’ll still have to create a Google+ page to link to your YouTube account but this Google+ page does not have to be your personal Google+ profile.
As you’ll see in the video, the process of changing your YouTube username without changing your Google+ profile name is as follows:
- Unlink your YouTube account from Google+.
- Create a new Google+ page for your YouTube account and name it whatever you would like your YouTube username to be.
- To edit your username in the future, simply change the name of the associated Google+ page.
