Ever wonder which demographic groups are most likely to use Twitter, how often they use it and what they’re using it for? Well I recently stumbled across a great infographic on Techi.com that answers all of those questions for us.
Although I’ve included the infographic at the bottom of this post, here are some of the highlights:
- 460,000 new Twitter accounts are created everyday
- 177 million tweets are sent everyday
- 20.6 million adults in the U.S. access Twitter at least once a month
- The most common age for a Twitter user is between 18-29
- Urban internet users are more likely to use Twitter than rural internet users
- Women are 11% more likely to use Twitter to keep in touch with friends than men
- Men are 10% more likely to use Twitter to find news
- 24% of active Twitter users check Twitter multiple times a day
- Very Interesting: .05% of entire the Twitter population (~20,000 users) attract almost 50% of attention on Twitter
- 71% of Twitter tweets receive not reaction whatsoever
- The United States did not make the top 10 list of countries with the highest percentages of Twitter penetration based on population
- 72% of U.S. companies use Twitter while 83% of European companies use Twitter
