When I first put this together back in 2020, TikTok’s website let you watch videos and manage your account, but there was no way to actually leave a comment. The only workaround was running the mobile app through an Android emulator on your computer. I said at the time that I’d update this post if TikTok ever fixed their browser version, so here we are.
You can now comment on TikTok videos straight from tiktok.com in a normal desktop browser. No emulator, no extra software, nothing to install. If you landed here looking for the BlueStacks method, you almost certainly don’t need it anymore — but I’ve left that section at the bottom for anyone who still wants it.
How to comment on TikTok from a computer
- Go to tiktok.com in Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox.
- Log in with the same account you use on your phone. This part is not optional — see below.
- Open the video you want to comment on.
- Click the comment icon next to the video to open the comment panel.
- Type your comment in the box and post it.
That’s genuinely it. Your comment posts under the same account and shows up the same way it would from the app.
You have to be logged in
This trips people up more than anything else. If you open TikTok in a browser without signing in, you’ll get pushed into a login prompt fairly quickly, and you won’t see a way to comment at all. That’s not TikTok removing the feature — it’s just that commenting requires an account, same as it does on your phone. Sign in first and the comment controls appear.
When you still won’t see a comment box
- The creator turned comments off. That’s a per-video setting and there’s nothing you can do about it from any device.
- The creator limited who can comment — for example to people they follow. Again, not a browser problem.
- You’re not signed in. See above. It’s usually this one.
What the web version still can’t do
Commenting works, but the browser version isn’t a complete replacement for the app. The big one is that you can’t record a video in the browser — the web interface gives you an upload button instead, so you’d need to shoot the footage elsewhere first. A few of the smaller comment extras, like attaching a photo to a comment, are rolled out by region and may not show up for you on either platform.
For everyday use though — watching, liking, commenting, replying, managing your account — the website handles it fine, and typing a longer comment on a real keyboard is a lot less painful than thumbing it out on a phone.
The old emulator method (2020)
I’m leaving this here for reference, but I’d skip it unless you have a specific reason to run the mobile app on your desktop. Back when TikTok’s website had no comment feature, the workaround was to install an Android emulator, install TikTok inside it, and use the mobile app from your computer. The video below walks through that process using BlueStacks.
Any emulator that runs Android will do the job. I used BlueStacks because it’s what I was comfortable with. A few viewers raised security concerns about it at the time — it does ask for elevated privileges, which is normal for emulators. I never had a problem with it, but do your own research, and remember you can uninstall it once you’re done.
