What to do if Your Email Account Has Been Hacked

Email account hacking is not a new phenomenon but it also doesn’t seem like it is going to stop any time soon.

Yahoo users are very familiar with this, as are users of other email providers.

What to do if your email account has been hacked:

  1. Change your password immediately.
  2. Make sure that your account isn’t setup to forward emails (details in above video).
  3. Check your sent mail folder for spam sent from your account.
  4. If spam has been sent, let your contacts know that you’re getting control of your account again.

Remember, it is a good idea to change your password every 6 months or less.

Never give out your password to anyone.  Even if they claim to be a representative of your email provider, a true representative will never ask for your password.
