My Apple mouse won’t scroll anymore!
For those of you who have received the basic Apple Mighty Mouse that is shipped with most Apple computers and laptops, you may have experienced problems with the scroll button not functioning as it should.
The most common scrolling issue users have with the Mighty Mouse is that it will scroll up a page but not down a page.
If you’re having this scroll issue or a similar one with the Apple Mighty Mouse, I’ve got a few suggestions that should help you fix the problem.

Suggestions to repair the Apple Mighty Mouse scroll button:
- Use a small amount of rubbing alcohol.
This suggestions came directly from the Genius Bar at the Apple Store. If you’re having trouble scrolling with your Mighty Mouse, there is a good chance that the wheel just needs to be cleaned off a bit and rubbing alcohol is better to use than water because it dries more quickly and completely.
- Aggressively move you finger in all directions over the scroll wheel.
Not everyone has rubbing alcohol in their desk drawer so if you’re looking for a quick solution for this problem, this technique has worked for a me a few times. Keep moving the scroll wheel in all directions while apply some pressure. This can dislodge debris that may be causing issues inside the Mighty Mouse.
- Use an object to clean around the scroll wheel.
If the above two methods do not work, this one tends to be my last resort before using Apple Care to replace the mouse.
Grab a piece of paper and fold in in half 2 or 3 times. Now use the sharp edge that you’ve created and wedge it in the crevices around the outside of the scroll wheel. Rotate the edge around the scroll wheel to, again, try and dislodge any debris.
If the above methods do not work, you may need to get the Apple Mighty Mouse replaced – remember, if you have Apple Care, you can get a mouse replacement from the Apple Store for free!
