Will a User See My Post on Google Plus [Google+ Flowchart]

If you’ve received and invitation for Google Plus then you’ve probably realized that the privacy controls are very intricate. Albeit powerful, the privacy controls in Google+ can be somewhat confusing for new users.

There are a couple ways to help you check whether you are using the proper privacy controls in Google Plus or not. The first way is to view your stream as someone else in Google+.

The second way is to use one of wonderful Google Plus flowcharts. The first one was developed by Lee S. translated and reposted by Axel Aigret, Cyril Galliné and Nathalie Gilson.

The second flowchart is simplier but does not account for all use case scenarios. It was submitted by Eric Feng.

Eric’s flowchart also includes whether or not a user will see your post on Facebook. By looking at this flowchart we can see that, although Google+’s privacy controls may seem more complicated at first, when it actually comes to making a decision, the decision process is much more complicated on Facebook.

    This is awesome! Love it.

But you missed the re-sharing that occurs when someone is "mentioned" in a comment to a post, even when re-sharing is disabled. It gives access to the original post and allows the "mentioned" user to "mention" additional users, giving them access as well.

In essence, there's no way to know who will see your post unless you are perfectly confident that all of your readers will agree to not to violate your privacy, either intentionally or through an ignorance of how the sharing works in G+.

For some reason, your flow chart does not inspire in me the confidence that all of my circle members will be fully aware of the true privacy implications.

Best to treat G+ like Twitter and remember that circles are really just cosmetic labels.

G+ made a good job but actual user limitation even though invited will. Force some irritation not only on german market

  12. David @ Buy Books says:

I have a Google+ profile. I add people to my 'Following' circle with the intention to be noticed and added to their circles. This is analogous to Twitter "follow, follow-back". May of these people have not added me to their circles.

"Spread the word" for my Google+ page can be directed at the 'Following' circle of my Google+ profile. Questions:

    1. What do the people in my 'Following' circle see?
    a) A notification for my "Spread the word"?
    b) My Google+ page posts?

    2. Does this cause me to effectively spam the people in my 'Following' circle?

    3. Over time, as I get more people in my 'Following' circle and repeat my "Spread the word" on my Google+ page, will this re-spread to previously reached people?

Does anyone have or know of a reference to answers? Thanks.
