How can I change my YouTube username / name?
If you’re asking yourself this question, you’re not alone!
Many people create YouTube accounts with a silly or fictional name to later realize that they would like to begin using YouTube with a more representative username.
Changing your YouTube name / username is simple – but there are restrictions.
Google is trying to link all of the services (Gmail, Drive, YouTube, Picasa, Maps, etc.) together so they are requiring that a user’s name be consistent across all services.
The video tutorial below will show you how to update your YouTube name and nickname but, remember, changing this information for YouTube will also change it for all of your other Google services.
Google offers the following options for your account / YouTube name:
- “First Name” “Last Name”
- “First Name” “”Nickname”” “Last Name”
- “First Name” “Last Name” (“Nickname”)
Google is also trying to make sure that users are accountable for the information that post or upload using their services so they have been known to ban accounts in which the user does not provide a valid name.
There is also a limit to the number of times a user can change his or her name on their Google / YouTube account.
Check out the video for more detailed instructions on how to update or change your YouTube username, name or nickname.
