As the popularity of Facebook grows, so does the amount of criminal activity committed and solved on Facebook.

With almost 1 billion users, Facebook is no longer the innocent social network that it once was.

The FBI and CIA are using Facebook and other social networking sites to assess, prevent and solve crimes.

For many of us, it is difficult to imagine that so many people are using Facebook for illegal activity.

To help increase the exposure of crime related activity on Facebook, an infographic (posted below) was recently published by CriminalJusticeDegreesGuide.com that brings illegal Facebook activity into the light.

Highlights of the Criminal Activity on Facebook Infographic:

  1. People who use Facebook more than once per day are 43% more likely to trust others.
  2. More than 100,000 crimes have been linked to Facebook in the UK over the past 5 years.
  3. 7,545 phone calls were made to the police in 2010 voicing concerns related to social media.
  4. UK police report that crimes have rose by over 500% in the past 3 years.
