How can I share Google Drive files (Google Docs) with non-Google / non-Gmail users?
If you’re asking yourself this question, you’re not alone! Not everyone has a Google account and there are many situations in which Google Drive users would like to share a document in Google format with somebody that does not have or want to have a Google account.
Thankfully, Google Drive now features a sharing setting that allows users to publicly share documents and files with non-Google users.
If done properly, the file will accessible and editable in any browser without having to be logged in to a Google account. The video above walks you through all the steps of sharing files with non-Google users.
It is important to remember that, when sharing files in this manner with Google Drive, the files will be publicly accessible. It does not mean that anyone can search for and find the specific file but if they happen to find the link, anyone will be able to access the files.
Sharing Google Drive files in this manner should not be used for files with contain confidential information. If this is the case, sending that file as a Microsoft Word attachment or PDF would be a better option.
